Christmas

Inside The Big Blue Bus Tour - Members traveling around in a school bus between jobs

Dear All,

Christmas and Christmas Eve was most excellent. We got TWO FULL PDAYS for both the days. As a zone, we hung out at the church most of the day and played basketball and had Nerf wars (we bought PVC pipe and blew dart Nerf bullets out of them). Super fun and incredibly childish. My favorite. On Christmas Eve we ate at our stake president's house and had a phenomenal brisket. Fell apart in your hands, with honey pecan bbq sauce. I wanted to cry. We decorated cookies and roasted marshmallows. At the end of the evening I got to play some guitar, which was so nice. We're not allowed to own instruments so it was great to play something again.

Christmas Day we went back to the church, and then went to the Varnado's where I got to Skype home. So that was pretty hip. I really like the Varnado's. Brother Varnado and I have the same sense of humor, so it was a wee bit dangerous. Super snarky and full of old, bald, short jew fro jokes. All in all, pretty excellent.

The work is great, but difficult, we don't even have an investigator. And we knock for about three hours a day. People slam doors in our faces, and you just gotta yell back to "have a nice day". One man told us we were wrong and that our church was wrong before slamming the door. Occasionally, we get people driving by and yelling obscenities. So we smile and wave. The people we meet are unique and humble. Everyone smokes. Often times, your hand smells like smoke just after shaking hands with them. But their personalities and hearts exceed their actions. Also, Texas has some of the best bumper stickers.

In my personal study, I decided to read the Old Testament and it is fascinating. In Genesis alone there are so many references that we don't even notice. Take time to read. You'll learn like you never had before.

The Work is great and powerful. Do it if you can. And love it. I know I do.

Love y'all,
Elder M. Wright
