Dear All,
What up world, I'm in TEXAS.
It's great. My first area is in a town called Baytown, and I'm in Baytown south. It's a land of trailer parks, ghettos, suburbs and all manner of random people. But they're all great. The ward is super nice and SUPER helpful. We always have someone willing to go to a lesson with us, or feed us even though there are FIVE SETS OF MISSIONARIES IN OUR WARD. Wut? The work is ever changing, however, my experience here has been interesting so far.
Our first day here, my trainer (Elder Nikolaus, from Mesa, AZ, been out 7 transfers) and I went knocking, and the first door we knocked on, the lady said she didn't have time, but she wanted us to come back because she had just lost her son. We had four more people tell us they wanted us to come back and it was great. The next day, we continued working, and while we were riding to our dinner appointment on a busy street, my companion got hit by a car. Some lady side swiped him, and he fell on his elbow. Luckily, the next day, we went and got x-rays, and it wasn't broken. But I had to take care of his road rash. Luckily, I am well versed in this. Since then, we haven't had much success, because we're what's called "White-washing." We're both new to the area so we haven't met half of our investigators. We have a baptism this Saturday, and we still haven't even met her. It's all pretty crazy. But we're still trying.

It's been great. It's tiring and hard, but you still enjoy it. You get caught up in the work and just keep going without looking back. I love it. First time I've ever been able to focus on one thing. All the pictures will depict my adventure from the MTC and so on. I love you all, and thank you for the continual support.

P.S. The only culture shock I've gotten is how many people are missing teeth. Like... how do you eat? You have one tooth...

  1. Hi Mac!
Merry Christmas. The Schick Family misses you.
It sounds like your first week was very eventful. Glad you were able to help out with Elder Nikolaus's road rash.
Oh, teeth... or lack of them. I remember when I used to go to Louisiana wondering the same thing.. "how do they eat?"
Keep up the good work and keep sending pictures!
